A Floyd County hardware store is robbed at gunpoint. Police say an unidentified man got away with money from the Hamilton Hardware store on KY Route 122 in McDowell.
There are no arrests yet.
Workers at Hamilton's Hardware store say the man came in the store Sunday night and pointed a gun at the woman behind the register.
"It was a very scary event. It'll take us awhile to recover from that," said Elizabeth Hamilton.
The clerk told police the man demanded cash. She gave him the money in the register and says he ran away from the store.
"We have no vehicle description, no indication that the subject was in a vehicle. No witnesses at the scene seen any kind of vehicle involved," said Trooper Shaun Little.
There were no customers in the store during the robbery. The clerk told police she did not recognize the robber.
She says he was around 5'5" tall and wearing a blue or black hooded sweatshirt. No other detailed description is available.
Police do not have a motive for the robbery yet. "We have no information on why this unidentified male chose this business. Being the hour that it was, this business in that area was the only one that was open," said Trooper Little.
Detectives are combing through McDowell questioning people and looking for clues to identify the suspect. The store owners ask the community for help.
"If they know anything, have seen anything, just please come forward. It's a very scary time and we need to stop it as fast as we can," said Hamilton.
Anyone with information on the robbery or the suspect should call the Kentucky State Police Post in Pikeville at 606-433-7711.
