HARLAN COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Police say a Harlan County man found dead in a home last week was beaten, and now another man is charged with murder.
Autopsy results show Bruce Penix, 47, died of blunt force trauma to the head.
Tuesday, state police arrested Robert E. Curry, 39, of Evarts.
Bruce Penix's son, David Penix, remembers his father as a man who liked to help people.
"He was a very loving man. He's a kind-hearted person. If he didn't know you and you needed a shirt, he'd give you the one off his back," said David Penix.
Bruce Penix was found dead in his home in Kildav last Thursday. Autopsy results show he died from severe head injuries.
"It's very upsetting," David Penix said.
State Police say Robert E. Curry is responsible. Detectives say Curry was at the home when Bruce Penix was found dead. They arrested Curry at the scene on disorderly conduct charges. He was later released from jail. Tuesday, state police arrested Curry again and charged him with murder.
State police will not release any details on what happened between the two men or what caused the fatal head injuries.
"At this time, it's still under investigation," said Trooper Shane Jacobs.
Police say Curry is not talking about what happened either.
"Once we arrested Mr. Curry, he had very few statements and advised he wanted a lawyer," said Trooper Jacobs.
David Penix says he and his father were not always close, but says he never imagined he would lose his father this soon.
"It makes you wish you could've had more time, but every time I talked to him, he always told me he loved me and he was proud of me," David Penix said.
David Penix says he wants justice for his father's death.
"There will be no rest for us until there's justice, and I'm really glad they made an arrest. The family is going to be at every court date," Penix said.
Curry's bond is set at $500,000 full cash.
