Harlan County man facing several charges, including evading police

A Harlan County man originally arrested on public intoxication charges is facing even more charges.

Officers with Kentucky State Police say they responded to a call Saturday night of a man who was intoxicated across from a gas station in the Dressen community.

When troopers got to the scene, they arrested 26 year old Shawn Kevin Smith.

Smith was taken to the Harlan County Detention Center, but was released shortly after to a friend's custody.

Officers later got a call that Smith had left the friends house in his car and got in a wreck on some nearby railroad tracks.

When troopers got to the scene, they had to flag down an on coming train to prevent a collision.

Witnesses later saw Smith jump onboard the train when it started moving again.

Once officers got the train stopped, Smith tried to escape from police, but was caught.

He is being held in the Harlan County Detention Center on several charges on a ten thousand dollar full cash bond.
