Harlan budget approved

Posted: Mon 6:55 PM, Jun 27, 2011

A budget is approved by the Harlan City Council that will make drastic cuts and reduce staff to close a $200,000 hole in the 2012 budget.

Officials say the budget will cut one position at the fire department and that has Councilman Jeff Phillips concerned. He says it leaves the department vulnerable, but says the city will work with the department head to try and save the position.

The city is also proposing a 15% cut across the board in every department.
