A Hazard native is now the new president of the Kentucky Firefighter's Association.

Hazard Fire Chief Sam Stacy was chosen by his peers to lead the organization that helps push the Kentucky legislature for regulations and funding for paid and volunteer departments.

"It is a great honor to be elected into anything where you serve the entire commonwealth of kentucky," said Stacy.
"It is really humbling that people have enough respect in you and belief in you that you can do the job."

Stacy said former Mayor Bill Gorman suggested he join the K.F.A. before he died to promote Hazard and Perry County in a positive light.
