High School bands practice in the heat

HARLAN, Ky. (WYMT) - Several high school bands are not letting the heat get in the way of practice!

Harlan High School is one place where band camp is underway.

Students tell us they have to practice, no matter what the weather is.

They are using the parking lot downtown and the asphalt makes it even hotter, but directors and students are making sure everyone stays safe in the heat.

"It's been hard. We've had to talk a lot of breaks so nobody passes out or anything like that, but it's going okay. We're doing good," said Drum Major Alaina Mavinidis.

The students say they have to practice now so they are ready for competitions and football season.
