He's the former sheriff whose name has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Tuesday Lawrence Hodge once again stood before a judge.
Hodge walked into a full courtroom. He was only inside that room for a few minutes.
Attorneys set a date for his next court appearance, and then he was out the door, carefully avoiding our cameras.
We wanted to ask Hodge about a just released federal affidavit, that points to discrepancies in how his office collected taxes.
One allegation - that folks paid larger amounts than what was actually recorded in the books. That leaves lots of money unaccounted for.
The affidavit sheds light on more missing money. This time, from a bank account Hodge claimed was used to pay drug informants for drug buys.
Records show since 2005, Hodge spent more than $70,000 from that fund, but the affidavit said the Sheriff's Department did not participate in any drug raids during that time.
"We are raising the standard of the Sheriff's Department. As to what will transpire with Ex-Sheriff Hodge in the court system, that is his situation," said Colan Harrell, Whitley County Sheriff.
Harrell said he is getting the affairs of the department in order.
"We're playing catch-up, but we are there," said Harrell.
Hodge will be back in court again in May.
It is important to point out that Hodge has not been federally charged up to this point, despite those federal affidavits.
