LONDON, Ky (WYMT) - The weather certainly created problems for some drivers Friday morning traveling for the holidays.
Drivers not only experienced snow and slick roads but also some very high wind gusts.
Usually in the days just before Christmas holiday travelers are worried about how much they will be paying at the pump, but on Friday that wasn't the case.
"I just want to get there safely, and just be careful," said Susie Hackett who is on her way to warmer weather.
She said the drive from Ohio to London was filled with traffic and slick roads.
She said, "We've gone done to Hilton Head many many times, and we have never had this weather at Christmastime. So this is new."
There was snow on the ground, and ice was reported in some areas.
Most parts of Interstate 75 in Kentucky were also dealing with some very high wind gusts.
"Anytime the winds kick up and get above normal, and you have the speed involved on the interstate, you can lose control," said Trooper John Pratt with Kentucky State Police.
But, for Doug Parks and his wife, this is not the kind of weather they are used to.
They are headed North to Ohio, but they rarely see these frigid temperatures in Florida.
Parks said, "I grew up up in this kind of weather in Ohio, but I've been away for 20 years, so we are going back for Christmas."
