FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Republican gubernatorial candidate Bobbie
Holsclaw is asking for a criminal investigation into passage of a
bill to allow optometrists to perform a variety of simple surgical
procedures.
The Jefferson County clerk sent letters Wednesday to federal and
state prosecutors asking for the probe because of concerns that
campaign contributions might have helped optometrists get the
measure approved by the General Assembly last month.
Kyle Edelen, spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office in
Lexington, said he could neither confirm nor deny an investigation.
Shelley Johnson, spokeswoman for the state attorney general's
office, acknowledged her office had received Holsclaw's letter but
said she could not comment on whether an investigation would be
conducted.
