Police say a Laurel County homeowner fought back during a late night home invasion.

Sheriff John Root says two men went to a home on Locust Grove Road in the Keavy community.

When the homeowner answered the door one of the men, armed with a gun, fought with the homeowner, while another went inside the house and confronted his wife and daughter.

That's when the daughter ran to call police, and the homeowner grabbed a boat paddle and beat one of the intruders.

“I'm behind him 100%. Like I say, when you're at home, that is the place you need to feel safe, you're the king of the castle,” Sheriff John Root said.

Police did recover the gun and several other items used in the would be robbery.

They say the two men wanted to steal the family's prescription drugs.
