Prestonsburg, Ky. (WYMT)- If someone gets a call with a personal identification number from somebody claiming to be with Highlands Health System trying to sell insurance through kynect, it is not a legitimate call.
Scammers are trying to gain access to personal information, and they are targeting the elderly, said Maxanna Cook, Marketing and Public Relations Director for Highlands Health System.
"We have been putting out information for healthcare coverage with Kentucky kynect, and we have absolutely been asking people to call us," she said.
They will not call people unsolicited, she emphasized.
Chuck Amburgey was at the hospital selling handicrafts Friday. He used to work in corporations where giving out personal information could lead to serious concequences, he said.
"It can literally cost entry-level employees jobs by giving out information that they're not privy to."
For people who sign up for insurance through kynect, the enrollees themselves must enter any personal information. Highlands staff members do not perform that task, Cook said.
