Hospital reaches a milestone

Pikeville Medical Center celebrated a big milestone in their construction project.

Officials at Pikeville Medical Center held a celebration as their newest addition came a little closer to being finished.

“Today is such a great day at Pikeville Medical Center. They have put the last beam of steel in our building,” Juanita Deskins PMC Chief Operating Officer.

The construction, which began in 2009, includes a 1,100 space parking garage, and a building that will house medical offices and 14 new operating rooms.

“I'd love to say that this is the end of a chapter but it absolutely is not. It is just one more chapter in the ever growing future for Pikeville Medical Center,” Pam May said.

Officials with Pikeville Medical Center placed an evergreen tree on top of the beam as it went into place to symbolize that there have been no injuries while under construction.

They say even though they have reached an important step, there is still a long way to go.

They continue to look forward to completing this project.

The expected completion date is December 24th, 2013.
