FRANKFORT, Ky. House Speaker Greg Stumbo has ordered letters to be sent to all legislative staffers, urging them to report any instances of sexual harassment.
That letter, made public Friday, also advised staffers of their right to a harassment-free workplace and advised them that retaliation for reporting harassment won't be tolerated.
The directive came on the heels of allegations by three legislative workers that they had been sexually harassed by Democratic state Rep. John Arnold of Sturgis. Arnold has refused to discuss the allegations, which have been turned over to the Legislative Ethics Commission.
They claim the harassment continued, even after they reported it to supervisors.
Stumbo said if the Legislative Research Commission, the agency the three women work for, didn't properly handle their complaints, "then someone is going to be accountable."
