House passes state budget that imposes cuts

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The House has passed an austere executive
branch budget that imposes sharp cuts on most state agencies and
services.

Even state and local government retirees took a hit in the
budget when lawmakers erased 1.5 percent cost-of-living increases
in their pension payments. That will affect some 200,000 retirees.

The House voted 78-17 to pass the budget, which now goes to the
Senate for consideration.

The budget calls for 8.4 percent cuts to most state agencies.
