Hundreds said a final goodbye to a man they call a visionary and dreamer.
Dr. David Prior passed away at his home last week after a brief fight with an illness.
Prior served as the Chancellor at UVa Wise for more than five years.
"David had such forward thinking and such enthusiastic goals and ideas. Some would say lofty, but he never thought anything was impossible," said Marcia Adams Gilliam, Board Chair of UVa Wise.
Speakers at the memorial described him as a visionary, a wonderful dreamer, successful yet selfless, a real person and the list goes on.
"He was a brilliant administrator, a capable leader, but most of all he was just a warm and much loved human being," said Helen Dragas, Rector of the University of Virginia.
Even students at UVa Wise admired him and count themselves lucky to have known Dr. Prior. He was a man who pushed them to do things they thought were impossible.
"He was always that person to dream big and then just go bigger on top of that. And so my ideas he would just amplify them times ten, said sophomore Madison Saverese.
He was an encourager who dreamed big himself. Under Dr. Prior's guidance student enrollment has grown and this campus has expanded.
Dr prior's legacy will live on here at UVa Wise in not only the structures he helped build, but in the impact he made on every person who knew him
The president or the university says she will be on campus a lot more in the coming weeks, and their next steps for the College at Wise will not be a secret.
