I-75 southbound closed due to tractor trailer accident

A serious accident on I-75, in Rockcastle County, shutdown traffic for hours Friday morning. Kentucky State Police say the crash happened around 4:00am near the 62 mile marker.

Authorities say 43-year-old Conley Thompson of Tyner was operating a white 2007 Volvo tractor trailer when he struck a blue 1999 Volkswagen Beetle, driven by 62-year-old Curtis Harris of Louisville.

Harris was taken from the scene to Mount Vernon Hospital and later air lifted to the University Of Kentucky Medical Center for non life threatening injuries. Thompson was taken to Mount Vernon hospitals were he was treated and released.

State Police say drugs and alcohol are not suspected and both parties were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

South Bound Lanes of travel was closed for several hours while crews worked to cleanup debris and fuel from a ruptured fuel tank.
