KNOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) A Floyd County inmate led police on a pursuit off Highway 80 Friday afternoon in Knott County.

During an inmate transport from Floyd to Perry County, officers say Terry Hill managed to escape from the jail vehicle.

Officers say the newly-purchased van has not yet been fitted with the proper locks, but they will be installed very soon.

Officers involved in the pursuit say Hill made it around one mile up and around a mountain before peacefully surrendering to surrounding police.

The pursuit lasted around thirty minutes.

"They saw him hunkered down, and when I got to him he was behind a pile of old weeds," said Knott County Deputy Jailer Robby Slone.

"He's pretty stuck on stupid," said Hill's ex-girlfriend, Sidney Jacobs, who was in the van during the transport, "it didn't surprise me one bit."

Slone said Friday's incident was the first time an inmate has tried to escape from him.

After the pursuit, officers took Hill to the Kentucky River Regional Jail.
