One inmate is dead and three other people are in jail after what police call a "drug party" in Floyd County.
Police say Cline Salyer, Jr. of Wittensville died in the jail from a drug overdose. Police say the investigation led them to find his friends in a motel room with drugs and children nearby.
Jail officials say 40 year old Cline Salyer was found unresponsive in his cell Thursday morning. He was pronounced dead at Highlands Regional Medical Center. "The death is related to drugs and other medical issues the deceased had, the combination of both," said Prestonsburg Detective Steve Little.
A KSP trooper arrested Salyer Wednesday night after he was allegedly driving under the influence on US-23. The citation says several prescription pills and marijuana were found in his car. Salyer submitted to a blood test before he went to jail.
Jailer Roger Webb said the jail staff followed proper procedure after Salyer was found dead.
During the death investigation, Prestonsburg Police determined Salyer was at the Super 8 with friends before his arrest.
Detectives say they found Chasity Wallen and Crystal Clevenger in the motel room with drugs and two children under the age of four.
"Some narcotics lying on the floor. It would have been easy for the children to get up and just pick this up off the floor and ingest it," said Det. Little.
Police charged the women with endangering the welfare of a minor and several other charges.
Social services took the young children and turned them over to the grandparents.
Police say another man, Joshua Wallen, was in the car with Salyer Wednesday night and was also arrested.
