Inmate escaped and was soon caught

An inmate escaped the Bell County Detention Center during visitation.

The Bell County jailer, Rex Miller, says 29-year-old Gary Raney of Pineville ran outside during a regular Sunday visitation.

Miller says Ramey ran to a nearby riverbank where Pineville police caught him 10 minutes after he escaped.

Ramey was brought in on June 12 for a bench warrant for misdemeanor traffic charges from 2005. He was also charged with not paying child support.

Miller says Ramey was scheduled to be released this week but is now charged with felony escape which could be up to five years behind bars if convicted.
