Police in Elliott County are trying to figure out what led to the death of an infant Wednesday night.
Officers say the four month olds father, Rodney McDowell, had just laid his son down to go to sleep and went to check on another child.
When he came back, just minutes later, police say the infant was caught between the mattress, headboard and wall, with a sheet over his head and was not responding.
The baby was taken to the Morgan County ARH and pronounced dead.
Officials are calling the death an accident, pending the results of an autopsy.
