Two dead following roof collapse at Boone County, West Virginia mine

WHARTON, W.Va. (WYMT/WSAZ/WOWK) - 7:45am Update: 5-13-14:

We have learned the Brody Mine was cited in 2013 for a pattern of violations found during a 12 month review that ended last August.

The MSHA report, which is attached to this story, states the violations show the mine had a disregard for the health and safety of its miners at the time the violations were issued.

7:25am Update 5-13-14:

West Virginia State Police confirm to Huntington-Charleston CBS affiliate WOWK the two miners killed overnight died in a roof collapse. We do not know what led to the collapse.

We are told one of the miners was identified by family members as Eric Legg. No word yet on the other miners identity.

7:10am Update 5-13-14:

We have a breaking update to a story we have been following all morning.

West Virginia State Police confirms two people are dead following an incident overnight at the Brody Mine #1 in Boone County.

We still do not know what happened or what led to the men's death.

We will have the latest on the incident as we learn more.

Huntington-Charleston CBS affiliate WOWK is now reporting one person is dead following an incident at a mine in Boone County, West Virginia.

Family members of the victim told the station they found out about the death a little while ago.

Federal or state officials have still not released any information.

We are following a developing story out of Boone County, West Virginia.

We're told state inspectors are on the scene of an incident that happened overnight at the Brody Mine near Wharton.

Officials are not releasing much information at this point.

Family members of miners who work at the mine told Huntington-Charleston CBS affiliate WOWK rescue teams and emergency responders were called to the scene around 10:30pm Monday.

We are continuing to follow this developing story and will bring you the latest as we get it.
