It wasn't a meteor shower in Harlan

Some people at a Harlan County hospital thought they witnessed a meteor shower, but it was something entirely different.

A well was being drilled on Grey's Knob Mountaintop, near the hospital. The well had several softball sized plastic balls inside of it and when the pressure was being released, several of the balls went flying into the air, and at least one traveled around a mile.

“They immediately shut the well down to try to prevent any further damage or loss of the balls. Unfortunately, one ball did travel maybe about a mile into the yard area of the ARH. It made a six inch hole in the ground,” Harlan Police Chief Mike Thomas said.

No injuries or other property damage was reported. There are still around five balls unaccounted for which could be in the well.
Anyone with property damage should notify Harlan City Police.
