Jackson Co. sheriff wants equipment back

In Jackson County, tension filled the fiscal court meeting Tuesday morning as Sheriff Denny Peyman asked the court for some equipment.

The sheriff says his equipment was taken from him last year and given to the new Jackson County Police Department, but the judge executive says that did not happen.

Peyman says he needs the equipment to do his job.

"I don't even have a radio. I have a hand held radio that doesn't even work most of the time. I don't have a cruiser to work out of. I'm working out of a little Mustang that does have emergency equipment, but whenever I transport a prisoner I have to put him in the front seat with me," said Peyman.

Judge Executive William O. Smith cautioned the court to be careful what they say since they are in litigation with the sheriff.
