January tornado touches down in metro Louisville

National Weather Service meteorologist Ryan Sharp says the
tornado packed winds of 95 mph as it hopscotched a suburban area
Tuesday morning.

Sharp says the tornado was on the ground for about four miles.

It touched down near a busy intersection in northeastern
Jefferson County and took a northeast track before going aloft. He
says it touched down again about a mile away and crossed a freeway
where two tractor-trailers overturned.

Louisville Metro Police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley says one
person was killed in a chain-reaction crash while traffic was being
diverted away from where the semis overturned.

MetroSafe spokeswoman Jody Johnson says one semi driver was
taken to a hospital with possible injuries. She says no other
injuries were reported.
