Jobless rate falls slightly in Kentucky

The state says Kentucky

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The state says Kentucky's jobless rates have fallen to 8.2 percent in May.

The latest figures from the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training on Thursday said the rate is down from 8.3 percent in April and it is the 10 consecutive month that a decrease was recorded.

Economist Manoj Shanker says it is the first time since 2004 that Kentucky unemployment has been equal to or better than the national unemployment rate, which was also 8.2 percent for the month of May.

Kentucky's leisure and hospitality job sector had the biggest increase in May, adding 2,600 positions.
