Judge tells coal company to reinstate a former employee

Updated: Tue 6:38 PM, Jun 19, 2012

A judge is calling on a Letcher County coal mine to reinstate a former employee.

Judge Margaret Miller concluded that Cumberland River Coal Company improperly fired 52-year-old Charles Scott Howard in May of last year after he was injured on the job.

Howard challenged the dismissal saying the company and its parent company dismissed him because he publicized safety issues in the mines.

He showed a video of leaking mine seals at a 2007 public hearing in Lexington.
