HARLAN, Ky (WYMT) - The commissioner for the Kentucky High School Athletic Association was in Harlan County Thursday.
They are going around the state talking with athletic administrators about Title Nine and participation opportunities.
The commissioner says recently the KHSAA has added championships in bowling, archery, bass fishing and cheerleading in hopes of increasing student participation.
"Everybody is fighting obesity problems, activity problems. You know let's get out and get them off the couch whether it's archery or football or anything in between. Let's get them doing something, boys, girls, everybody," said KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett.
The commissioner says participation in school sports is also a good way to decrease dropout rates and improve grades.
