A few morning and afternoon showers did not stop the 81st Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival in Pineville Friday.
Most folks we talked with said they've been looking forward to the festival for months, and many of them have been attending for years.
They've been making lemonade here for a long time.
"More than twenty years," said Steve McCarty.
McCarty still keeps that first year at the festival in his mind.
"I remember the first one. I made a whopping six hundred dollars and thought I was rich," said McCarty.
Seeing friends and having fun, that's why he and others say they come back year after year.
"It's something that is ingrained into the people here. It's our big moment to shine," said McCarty.
"For 81 years, this little town has been doing this. It's something to be proud of," said Ann Jarvis, with the Mountain Laurel Festival.
It's a chance for all CATS fans to show support for their team and get some "healthy food" too.
But there is one thing you will not get.
"The recipe is secret," said McCarty.
And that's his secret recipe for McCarty's special lemonade.
The festivities will continue Saturday. The 5k kicks off at 8 in the morning, followed by the parade at 10.
The coronation ceremony is later that afternoon.
