KNOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) One Knott County man learned how long he will spend behind bars Thursday in the Knott County Circuit Court.

A judge sentenced Jerry Combs to 18 years in jail.

Prosecutors say in January, he stabbed Eric Fugate, 30, to death.

Combs pleaded guilty to manslaughter earlier this month.

Members of Fugates family say although the sentencing helps, they still have questions.

"I don't think I'll ever know why it happened," said Fugate's mother Jennifer Lawson, "only he knows why it happened. Mr. Combs...and I'm sure it'll never be got out of him. He's the only one that knows."

Fugate's body was found in the Triplett Branch area after family members reported him missing.
