DAYHOIT, Ky (WYMT) - Many who live along Highway 3451 in Harlan County have to drive through a parking lot on their way to work.
Part of that road is blocked following a large landslide last Thursday night.
Traffic is being detoured through a parking lot that sits next to the site of the slide.
It happened near an old strip mine.
Bob Jones is with the Kentucky Division of Abandoned Mine Lands and said they hope to start cleanup soon.
"We have got a tentative pre-bid date and we're still waiting on approval from our commissioners," said Jones.
He said that should take a couple days.
In addition to getting the okay from local officials, Jones said they also need to hear back from federal officials, which could take longer.
That wait has some local residents concerned about the possibility of the landslide worsening.
Bradley Williams is one of those people.
"There are people that live here, elderly people, you know what if it slides off and there's an emergency," said Williams.
He said there is always one question on his mind when he leaves for work in the morning.
"You wonder you know if you got out are you going to be able to get back," said Williams.
Jones said the landslide first began moving more than two months ago.
