Around 200 people came together in London to remember a former state senator at a dinner in his honor.
Rev. Gene Huff was given the Leader of the Year award from Leadership Tri-County following his death in December of last year. The award and plaque was given to his wife at the dinner where several people talked about what he did for the region. The organization honors and pays tribute to people who do a lot for Knox, Whitley and Laurel counties. Sen. Tom Jensen (R) London was the guest speaker.
“I mentioned his church before and it was his vision it was his guidance it was his determination to build that church,” said Jensen.
“Gene has just done a whole lot of things for this community and it will last forever, his memory will to last forever through the church or through the other things that he has done.”
Jensen said he was honored to speak and he would have come from Frankfort just to be there to honor the late senator.
Jensen served as Huff’s treasurer when he ran against Harold “Hal” Rogers years ago.
Huff, who was the pastor of the London Pentecostal Church for nearly thirty years and served in the state senate for more than twenty years, died of lung disease at the age of 82.
