LONDON, Ky (WYMT) - Undercover investigations carried out by the Laurel County Sheriff's Office helped land more than 20 people behind bars after a drug round up Thursday.
Sheriff's deputies carried out arrest warrants for 25 suspects, facing an array of charges involving illegal drug trafficking and possession.
John Root is the Laurel County Sheriff and he said their efforts are all a part of his "war on drugs".
"The message that I'm sending and I have said it before, in Laurel County, we're tough on drugs," said Root.
He said it was thanks to his team's efforts and those who helped out that they were able to have such a successful round up.
Sheriff's deputies were aided by London and Williamsburg City Police Departments.
The Kentucky State Police was also on hand.
Root said they decided to do the round up on a holiday to keep drug abusers guessing.
"If you're dealing, expect a visit from us real soon," said Root.
The round up began around five this morning and was finished well before noon.
Root said the county is facing problems with prescription drug abuse.
"We are going to fight it and we are going to fight it daily," said Root.
Root and his deputies do round ups like this three to four times a year.
