LONDON, Ky. (WYMT) - A reward has been offered for information about a burglary at a Laurel County home that happened while the owner was away visiting family members for Christmas.

Rufus Bruner Jr. returned from vacation only to find his home in pieces.

“It’s terrible to have to come back to something like this,” said Bruner.

During his 3 week vacation, burglars broke into his home and stole nearly 20 guns and many knives.

That is, despite the fact that Bruner said he always takes precautions inside and outside his home before he leaves.

“I had a neighbor that lives up here on the corner he would check by my house once in a while to see,” Bruner said.

“The back door that was broken out is not visible by neighbors nearby which is why it went unnoticed for quite some time.

Police say sometimes the precautions you take are not enough.

“If you can have a neighbor keep an eye on your house, if you can have a family member stay at your house would be even better” said Doug Thomas, with the London Police Department.

Bruner said he is going to get an alarm system soon.

“We thought this was a good safe place but no place is safe apparently when they got woods behind them,” said Bruner.

A 2,000 dollar reward is being offered for information about the crime.
