Laurel County jail starts new inmate mail program

LONDON, Ky. (Sentinel Echo/WYMT) -- Officials at the Laurel County detention center are instituting a new mail program in an effort to cut down on inmate drug use.

The London Sentinel Echo reports jailer Jamie Mosley put the program into place when he and his officers caught people trying to smuggle drugs in by mail.

Now, inmates will only be allowed to receive letters in postcard form.

Mosley told the paper letters in an envelope will be sent back or discarded.
