Laurel County man charged following collision with pedestrian

LONDON, Ky. (WYMT) - A Laurel County man is recovering at UK Medical Center after police say he was hit by a drunk driver.

Police say Mark Wagers was walking along Kentucky 1223 near Corbin when he was hit by a truck driven by 64 year old Richard Peace.

Police say Wagers suffered serious injuries including facial fractures and a broken leg.

He was airlifted to UK Medical Center.

Police say it wasn't hard for the deputy to determine that alcohol was involved.

“As soon as he got to the scene, he smelled alcohol on the driver. He conducted a field sobriety test. He was determined to be under the influence,” Gilbert Acciardo said.

Peace was charged with second degree assault and DUI.
