WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - Police say one Laurel County woman stole her unconscious roommate's credit card and several pieces of mail.
Police have charged Tiffany Elliot with possession of stolen mail and theft by deception under ten-thousand dollars.
They say all of it belonged to her live-in girlfriend, but the purchases were made while she was in the hospital unconscious.
A locked door keeps Tiffany Elliot away from her family and Girlfriend Chrystal Wright, but while Elliott is here at the Whitley County detention center, Wright lays in the hospital unconscious.
“It’s not fair. I should be there with her right now I shouldn't be here. These allegations shouldn't have been brought up at all,” said Elliott.
She was arrested when police found her with a stack of Wright's mail and her wallet, which included her debit card that police say she used to make several purchases and withdraws while Wright was in the hospital.
“She gave me her ATM, debit, credit cards I was allowed to buy whatever I wanted whatever I needed,” said Elliott.
And police say they're unsure of what put Wright in the hospital in the first place.
“At this point the investigation is still a little sketchy, I guess you could say, things just aren't adding up with Tiffany's story,” said Corbin Police Detective, William Rose.
But Elliot says she came home to Wright lying in the bathroom floor in a diabetic coma.
“It's going to prove itself that she had a seizure, and more than likely hit her head on the door on the wall she could have hit her head on anything,” said Elliott.
She hopes she will soon wake up and back up her story.
Police say they expect more charges to be filed against Elliott.
Yet, because the allegations occurred in Whitley and Laurel County, the Laurel County Sheriff's Office will be investigating what happened at the couple's home.
