Ames Hursey sees his wife much differently now than when they were married several years ago. “I got a phone call from her mom blaming it on me, and then 6 months later she calls me and said 'yeah, she tried to do it, but it’s still your fault,'” said James Hursey.
It was a murder for hire plot. Police say Amber Hursey hired a man to kill James only that man was a friend of James who told him and police of the deed. Amber pleaded guilty and on Tuesday she was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
“I don’t think she got long enough truthfully, it could have been my life along with the lives of my family,” said James.
Hursey says he has since learned that the hitman was supposed to take out other members of his family. “She told him to take the whole family out, except my dad, she said just to knock him out,” said Melissa Hahn, James Hursey’s mother.
Amber Hursey had nothing to say from the bench, but the would-be victims have their own ideas of her motivation. “She claims that she was a victim of abuse, it was proven she wasn’t. It was over money, she got a letter that my son got a lot of money, it was over money, she wanted the money,” said Hahn.
The couple had a son together. “He’s eventually going to learn what his mother has done, how would you like to learn growing up that your mother tried to kill your dad?” said Hahn.
James Hursey says now that the sentencing is done he can move forward on a divorce decree.
