FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky lawmakers have finished work on a
bill to criminalize a menacing wave of synthetic drugs marketed as
bath salts. The powdery substances can cause dangerous reactions
belying their soothing names.

The House voted 95-0 Friday for final passage of the bill, which
would ban the sale, manufacture or possession of those substances
in Kentucky. Violators would face misdemeanor charges that could
result in jail time and fines.

The House vote came a few hours after the Senate passed the
bill. The measure now goes to Gov. Steve Beshear.

The legislative action comes just days after a woman was found
wandering along an interstate highway in western Kentucky with two
children after allegedly snorting bath salts.
