Lawyers to seek delay in Farmers' divorce trial

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Lawyers are seeking to postpone the
divorce trial of Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer and his
wife Rebecca Ann.

Frankfort attorney Richard Guarnieri, representing Farmer, told
The Courier-Journal Monday that both sides have agreed to try to
resolve the case before going to trial, which had been set for
Tuesday (http://cjky.it/tG7k6T).

Brian Logan, the attorney for Farmer's wife, didn't immediately
return a call seeking comment.

Guarnieri said he and Logan have proposed a court order that
will move the trial date to Dec. 29 while hoping to reach a
settlement before then.

Richie Farmer is nearing the end of his second term as
agriculture commissioner. He ran this year for lieutenant governor
on the Republican slate headed by Senate President David Williams.

Rebecca Farmer had filed for divorce in April.
