Leslie County escapee captured for the second time

LESLIE Co., Ky. (WYMT) - UPDATE: 09/10/13

On Tuesday afternoon officials at the Leslie County Detention Center contacted law enforcement after 26-year-old Ricky Hendrix escaped a second time.

Around 11:40 a.m. jail coordinators said Hendrix kicked out the jail van window, rolled onto Kentucky Route 118 and ran away.

This incident occurred near Detention Road, the jail's driveway.

Court Security Officer Bryan Adams said Hendrix was coming from court, wearing leg irons and a belly chain.

Local law enforcement and two state troopers checked up and down the Hyden Spur and surrounding communities.

This was until Adams noticed someone getting into a vehicle.

"We noticed that the person began to lean over in the vehicle, trying to hide themselves from us," said Adams. "That's when we noticed it was the person that escaped."

Hendrix is now in custody.

No one was injured, including Hendrix who was checked out by nurses.

Adams said they are taking more precautions, not only for Hendrix, but for all inmates.

"I'd spoke to some of the jail staff and they already mentioned better securing their vehicles," Adams said.

In the future, their hope is similar incidents do not occur.
