Updated: Wed 12:09 AM, Jan 16, 2013

WHITESBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - In less than one week the Letcher Central Marching Band will be performing in the Inaugural Parade in Washington D.C.

The band held a benefit Tuesday at the high school to hopefully bring in the rest of the funds needed to pay for the trip. Tuesday's event included a chili dinner, silent auction, and performance by the band. Band officials say they are hoping to have enough funds to purchase some weather gear for the students since it will likely be cold.

Band Director Jason Griffith says, "We are very close to paying off our trip portion, what we owe the tour company and we are really thrilled about that. There are also some other things we need so we are hoping to knock that our here tonight as well."

The band is set to leave january 19th, the parade is the 21st.
