Letcher Co. woman gives birth in own bathroom

Updated: Sat 12:38 AM, Feb 16, 2013

WHITESBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - An Eastern Kentucky Family celebrated Valentine's Day at Appalachian Regional Hospital in Whitesburg with a new baby boy...which is not exactly what they had planned.

It was not your typical Valentine's Day delivery of flowers and candy for Angie Potter, "My water broke out of the blue and I hollered for my husband and when he got to the bathroom the baby was crowning and we had no choice but to deliver the baby right there and he took over."

Potter, not supposed to give birth until March 5th, says Thursday started out like a normal day, "I was vacuuming an hour before he was born."

Proud dad, John, says he is still having a hard time believing he delivered his baby boy, "It was all fatherly instinct, I couldn't have done it any other way."

Proud mom and wife, Angie, says, "He took over and did great, the baby was fine, I was fine...he did good."

The potters say they look forward to telling their son, Draycen, all about his special delivery. Potter says "He is special and thank God everything is fine."

Both mom and baby are healthy and happy, they hope to go home Saturday morning.

The Potters want to thank the Fleming-Neon Fire Department for their quick response and help with transporting mom and baby to the hospital.
