Letcher County courthouse damaged in earthquake

WHITESBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - Saturday's earthquake still has many scratching their heads, and a few left with minor damage to their homes or businesses.

The earthquake struck just eight miles from the city of Whitesburg. Damage from the 4.3 magnitude quake was light, but a few homes and the county courthouse sustained some structural damage.

Officials say even the smallest hairline crack in a foundation can develop into a big problem.

"As that area under the home settles and stuff, those cracks may develop into something worse, and actually worsen the foundation," said emergency management director Paul Miles.
