ABINGDON, Va. (WYMT/WJHL) - A Letcher County man is headed to prison for robbing a Norton, Virginia bank.

On Wednesday, a federal judge in Abingdon sentenced 49-year old Ronald Green of Isom to 20 years in prison and five years supervised release.

Prosecutors say they found evidence in early December 2011 that Green staked out numerous banks in Kentucky and southwest Virginia looking for one to rob.

They say on December 9, 2011, Green entered the Norton branch of New Peoples Bank and pointed a large caliber handgun at the bank tellers demanding money.

Green then escaped the scene on a bicycle.

He was arrested two weeks later and had a large amount of money stolen from the bank in his possession.
