WHITESBURG, Ky. (WYMT)- A young woman from Letcher County is representing the state as well as the mountains on a national platform.
It hasn’t even been 48 hours since Destin Kincer, 21, was crowned Miss Kentucky USA 2014.
“I wasn’t so much focused on winning, I wanted it to be a great experience,” Destin said.
The UK student is a Letcher County native and is currently studying to be a dermatologist. But this week, her life changed after competing in a competition that now has her receiving national recognition.
“So you’re relatively new to this?”
“Yes! I’m not a pageant girl!” Destin added.
Destin has only competed in four pageants in her career, one of them being Miss Kentucky Teen 2011.
“I was kind of praying, I was thinking ‘Please God, please God,’because the girl that was runner up, I was her runner up in Miss Kentucky Teen, so it was kind of like a flashback,” Destin said.
Destin wants to use her title to fight against childhood obesity, something that she hopes will make a difference right here in the mountains.
“I would love to get more physical activity because I think physical fitness and health is a very important thing and I’d love to get that back into school systems.
Destin will represent Kentucky in the Miss USA Pageant this summer.
She was also awarded a scholarship for college.
