LETCHER Co., Ky. (WYMT) - Sheriff Danny Webb chose to serve and protect his community. That dedication has allowed Danny Webb to serve the people of Eastern Kentucky as a state trooper and Letcher County's sheriff for decades.

Family, friends and coworkers managed to keep Sheriff Danny Webb Highway a surprise.

"I'm honored. I'm surprised some of them kept it a secret. I had no clue," said Webb.

As a Vietnam veteran, former state police officer and retired captain, Webb says he is just doing his job.

"I love going to work every morning. They always told me as long as you like going to work don't retire," said Webb.

Deputy Sheriff Eugene Slone says he cannot help, but be emotional.

"I want them to just remember the dedication and what all the sheriff has put in to his service, not only as sheriff, but as a veteran," said Slone.

After more than 40 years in law enforcement, this highway dedication is leaving Webb at a loss for words.

"I'm sure I'm gunna look at it a few times. That's an amazing honor," said Webb.

This is one way to ensure his name will live on long after he is gone.

The Sheriff Danny Webb Highway is on 15X in Whitesburg and ends at the intersection by Pizza Hut.
