LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A Jefferson County social worker says
employees are so overwhelmed with cases that some are breaking down on the job, while others are suffering health problems or quitting.
Jefferson County social service employee Patricia Pregliasco
made the statements in an e-mail she sent Monday to Janie Miller,
who is secretary of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
Pregliasco said caseloads have increased while staff and
resources have decreased to do state budget cuts.
Cabinet spokeswoman Jill Midkiff said Miller has "asked key
cabinet management officials to meet with Ms. Pregliasco in the
near future to hear her concerns."
The cabinet has come under increased scrutiny after child
welfare officials ignored or dismissed as unfounded repeated
reports of abuse in a case where a child was beaten to death.
