LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Sundays at Joe Bologna's are typically the only day Kathryn Link serves, and she says her tables were great, but this Sunday she found herself wishing to be anywhere else.

"I woke up ten minutes before I had to leave for work," adding, "I was just like 'I just want to get done with it.' I get to go back to my dad's house when I get off work, so just got to get it done."

With Christmas just days away, all that stood between her and the break at her father's house was one final table.

"It just happened to be my turn," described Link.

Her turn to take the table was about to be a turn that would change her day because the group she was serving were family members of Aaron Collins.

"I just served them, got them their food and everything, and at the end they just surprised me!"

The group started "Aaron's Last Wish," after their loved one passed away this past summer. Since then, they've gone around the nation leaving $500 tips for servers, in Aaron's memory.

When Link saw the amount left for her she couldn't believe her eyes.

"I was shaking, I cried, I didn't know what to expect," she went on to say, "I was worrying this morning I didn't know how I'm going to make rent and you know money was a little bit tighter and then I just got this big surprise."

Link says her biggest tip until this Sunday was just ten or $15, she says she even tried to split the tip with another server but that waitress said no.

"With everything that's been going on you're like 'the world is so awful' and then you have people like Aaron Collins' family that just come in and want to give back. It was amazing that I was that lucky to be that person. They made it a really wonderful Christmas for me."

On a day that Link hoped would pass quickly, instead became the most memorable day this server would have.

Since the family started this, they have received donations from all over to continue passing out this blessing. According to their website below, they have raised more than $62,000 to pass out.
