Prior to the Bluegrass Economic Advancement board meeting Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and Lexington Mayor Jim Gray shared some friendly fighting words. “We’re focused on the classroom, but I think later this week, you all need to be focused on starting to medicate yourself,” joked Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer.
At the center of the wager is whiskey from the Louisville Mayor and Kentucky Ale from Lexington’s Jim Gray. “You need to recognize this is high octane material, which encourages fantasies,” Mayor Jim Gray said after Fischer predicted that UK will underestimate Louisville and lose.
But both mayors have also agreed to wear the losing team’s school colors based on what happens Saturday night. “So Greg, I’m really looking forward to see you in solid blue, solid blue baby,” said Gray.
“Now Jim is already being a testament to this overconfidence,” said Fischer.
All games aside, both mayors say what each town has is truly exceptional and bodes well for the whole state. “This does speak to the vigorous competition in the sports arena, but it speaks to our vigorous cooperation in working together in the economic arena,” said Mayor Gray.
The wearing of colors by the losing mayor will take place on championship Monday.
