PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT)- Businesses, community organizations, neighbors and friends are grabbing their walking shoes and heading to the city park in Pikeville to raise money and awareness for blood cancer.
As the sun goes down, participants in the light the night awareness walk will carry illuminated balloons in memory of those who lost their life to blood cancer and in honor of survivors. This is an annual event for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Organizer Louis Barnes says all proceeds go towards cancer research and it is not too late to register.
He says,”We want everybody to come whether they've got a penny of not. We, we want this to be an awareness meeting of everybody and let you know what the warning signs of blood cancers are.”
Barnes says walkers can expect food, fun, and fellowship.
This event is free, but for those who pay the 50 dollar registration fee you get a t-shirt. The walk begins at 6:30, but everyone is encouraged to come out around 5:30 for other activities.
